Dr. Aju Abraham, a UK-qualified psychiatrist who is in possession of vast experience in the various treatment approaches in psychiatric disorders. Dr Aju often integrates psychological approaches with psychopharmacological treatments, to offer the maximum potential for recovery from the distressing and debilitating conditions that patient’s experience. Prior to the initiation of services in Doha, Dr. Aju served as a consultant psychiatrist in the UK. During this period, he worked in some of the leading centres in the UK, such as The Royal Victoria Infirmary and the St. Nicholas Hospital, in Newcastle Upon Tyne. He took a 2 year sabbatical from his consultant job at St. Nicholas Hospital, Newcastle Upon Tyne in October 2006 to set up his clinic in Doha and subsequently decided to carry on with his work in Doha as he felt his services were very much needed in Doha. Dr. Aju started his psychiatric training in 1999 at St Lukes Hospital, Middlesborough, following which he worked in various hospitals in the North East of England and was awarded the Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatry in the UK in January 2002. He was soon accepted for the specialist training programme in Psychiatry at the Post Graduate Institute (Northern Deanery) in Newcastle Upon Tyne. He then obtained his Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) from the Specialist Training Authority of the Medical Royal Colleges, UK in 2005. It was Dr Aju’s quest for excellence that urged him to take the Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy from University of Durham in 2005 and to progress quickly in his career to become a Consultant Psychiatrist. One of the highlights of his career was when his team at the St. Nicholas Hospital, where he was the Consultant Psychiatrist, won the award for the best psychiatric team of the year 2006, in Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK, from the mental health charity organisation ‘MIND’. Dr. Aju exercises special command in Psychopharmacology, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Family Therapy, Neurofeedback Therapy and Biofeedback Therapy. Dr Aju has integrated the use of various psychometric assessments alongside the routine psychiatric assessments to obtain an accurate and scientific evaluation of existence of various mental and developmental disorders in children, adults and older age groups. Dr Aju has exceptional skills and more than a decade of experience in the treatment of conditions such as Depression, Sleep Disorders, Panic Disorder, Phobias, Other Anxiety Disorders, Stress Related Problems, Relationship/Marital Problems, Adult Attention Deficit Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in Children, Other Childhood Mental Health and Behavioural Problems, Adolescent Mental Health and Behavioural Problems, Bipolar Affective Disorder, Schizophrenia, Other Psychotic Disorders, Eating Disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Psychosomatic Disorders, Addiction, Personality Disorders etc. Dr Aju has developed a special interest and expertise in the evaluation and treatment of Attention Deficit Disorders in Children & Adults and integrates the routine methods of clinical evaluation with other objective methods of evaluation such as psychometric assessments and computerised testing.
